Kate Lycett Exhibition

20th May - 12th August

“It is a joy to be holding another solo exhibition for Kate; she has become one of the outstanding artists in Yorkshire, producing paintings of places and landscapes that are loved and enjoyed throughout the county. Her pieces have a real resonance with her followers as she paints places that to many individuals have a place in their hearts…. a family holiday, a wedding venue, a historic site or local haunt. She portrays these places in her own unique style, with beautiful and carefully thought out colour, composition and hand embellishment. Her textile background is apparent in the pattern and placement of her composition, to the point where the paintings resemble a beautiful patchwork of landscape or place”.

The exhibition is titled “Big Skies & Old Stones” and emphasises the type of work that will be at the exhibition – vast skies over Whitby Harbour, Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay and the old stones of Yorkshire’s historic sites such as Fountains Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard. Landscape and architecture combined with exquisite colour and pattern epitomise the style and character of Kate’s work.

“These past weeks I have taken great delight in retreating into the sunshine in my paintings of Castle Howard, Fountains Abbey and Rievaulx. I visited in August last year and had two whole days on my own with my sketchbooks. In October we visited the North Yorkshire coast with the children. I’ve finished a large one of Whitby from the walkway beyond the lighthouse, where I watched my children with my mum in the pirate ship on a rather choppy sea. Painting all these lovely trips has been a great escape in the grey winter months“. Kate Lycett
