Phil Wilson was born in Birmingham in 1972 and now lives in Harrogate with his wife and 2 children. He spent his childhood in Birmingham before moving to South Wales and was always encouraged by his musical parents to explore his creativity through music and art.
He completed a university degree in illustration, though wishes now he had pursued a degree in Fine Art instead, with the technical painting skills that were not part of an illustration course. Indeed, he considers himself a self-taught painter, constantly working to develop his skills from books and endless practise.
Phil Wilson now teaches art three days a week at a school in Leeds, using the other two days for his own creations. Painting in a textured, colourful and painterly style, he tries through his paintings to create a modern interpretation of common themes, working in mixed media including tissue paper, photography, inks and acrylics.
