David Howell

David has been exhibiting with the Chantry House Gallery since the late eighties and has returned to live in Yorkshire after 20 years in the South West . He paints in watercolour, oils and pastels and his subjects include landscape and marine, equestrian pictures related to racing, shooting, life work and anything else that takes his fancy. David firmly believes that irrespective of the subject, the only thing that really matters is the quality of the painting, and he travels widely in search of new material. His work is well known in the Middle East where he lived for many years and he frequently paints in France and elsewhere in Europe. He prefers to work plein air on location and is as likely to be found beside a canal in Venice as wandering around on the North York Moors.

David’s paintings are very much in demand, and apart from exhibiting at national level, he supplies a number of major galleries in the United Kingdom as well as others in the USA, Dubai and Australia, and he has had over 20 one-man shows in various parts of the world. Apart from gallery demands, David works regularly to commission and his pictures hang in collections worldwide ranging from royal palaces in the Middle East to London boardrooms. He has had work published as limited edition prints, magazine articles and in book form and recently completed a DVD entitled ‘Just Watercolour’ for APV Films. He also does a limited amount of teaching both in this country and in France and Italy. David is an Honoury Member of the Pure Watercolour Society.
